Early

Totally not a fan of waking up before the sun rises….it’s unnatural!

Homeward Bound

Currently in Key West, Florida.  Talk about a town, this place gets W I L D.  Should be home here shortly though, probably the busiest patrol yet.  We stopped 4 seperate go-fasts, interdicted $100,000 in drug related trafficking money, discovered a hidden compartment laden full of cocaine onboard a Colombian fishing boat, helped out in the successful search and rescue case involving two navy sailors, handed off some bad guys to a few DEA & FBI agents, and got fully qualified onboard.

Busy, busy, busy - the way it should be.  It’s been a long two months and I am ready to get home to relax for a bit.

I hope everyone is enjoying the 3-day weekend, we’ll be off the coast enjoying the fireworks shows from afar.  Home, here we come!

Tumblr works at work!

Tumblr works at work….wow talk about a suprise, especially when every other website is blocked on the good old government network.

Department of Defense (DoD) has changed their policy on social media, and actually opened up all venues (youtube, facebook, etc) for servicemen and women.  Coast Guard, falling under the Department of Homeland Security - is far behind as usual.  It’ll probably be another year or two before we see any type of revolutionary change in policy on our end.

And yeah, we’re definitely still using Windows XP and Internet Explorer v6.0 which debuted in 2001.  I love being an Electrical Engineering major with an organization that is so far behind the tech curve.  Sometimes I think my mousepad on my laptop is like my mac at home, then I get really bummed out at how inefficient Gateway laptops are and how many restrictions I have on what I can and can’t do.

Either way on duty tonight until tomorrow morning…..wake up, get relieved, and stay onboard for a whole other day until the end of the workday before I get to go home.  I cannot wait to get off of a ship next summer!
